The Blog has Moved Again

After five years, I have finally given in and decided to move both this blog and my own to the root directory. That’s right, no more /blog/ and no more basic redirect in the root. Five years ago, we planned on having some well-developed sites that included the blog along the side, so we placed the blogs in the /blog/ directory and a simple redirect in the root there for the time being. What actually happened is that over those five years we wound up developing our blogs into the sites that we wanted in the first place, so I felt that it was time to give them the placement that they deserved.

Fortunately, modern redirects have evolved in such a way that you don’t need to do anything, unless you really want to change your bookmarks or resubscribe to the feed. Everything should be redirecting to the proper place. Unfortunately, not all subscription services will be able to redirect to the new feed, but I’m hoping that they will at least make some sort of notice regarding the problem so that you can re-subscribe to the new feed URL.

I’ll be posting a writeup of the whole move process in a few days, so If you notice anything wrong, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Wow! I know, I know… it’s been FOREVER since I’ve posted on this poor blog!! Can I blame Facebook?? And life…

Well, this is worth posting EVERYWHERE! I am soooo proud to be a regular member of the new and fantastic Clan Dragonas – a Celtic-Folk Rock band… Actually, a family of like-minded, highly professional musicians and composers who have nothing to prove to anyone, and only love, mutual respect, and joy in their hearts – making it definitely one of the BEST groups (if not the best group) in which I have ever had the honor of being asked to participate!

I know – mighty strong words. I can prove it to you.

This is more of a plug for my other wonderful and successful business… but this new video the Mary Kay company came out with to promote the Great Start promotion (as its April 30th deadline fast approaches) is great! I just had to share… And, yes, these are real ladies, with real testimonials, who wanted more for their lives and found it with their own Mary Kay business. Let me know what you think!

We’ve Moved!!!

James and I just recently moved into our first and brand NEW house!!

We’re in the lovely and developing city of Rialto, right next door to Fontana. We were able to pick out our countertops, our cabinets, our flooring… we got front and back landscaping and all appliances… we have a teaching studio/.music room right by the front door and a large open living area, 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bath, two stories… just Beautiful!!

Thank you Jesus, family who helped us out, music-teaching and Mary Kay! Hee hee!!!

Catching up a Bit…

(…been lacking on the Regular Blogging Hygene end of my internet life…) :p

Well…

I am ashamed to see how few and far between my posts have become, and I thank you so much for your patience! My life has just been blossoming with opportunities (and obligations, too)… and I’ve gone through several MAJOR milestones just within these past 6 months, including marriage, some difficult changes in family relations, unexplicable and sudden death of my father at Christmastime , starting a new and second entrepreneurial business (in addition to my regular load of musicking), surviving my final school requirements and thus graduating with my Masters degree (yay!!), and buying a new home (we’re moving next week, on Friday the 13th!!!). In fact, several of my student-parents are wondering why I’m still working at all right now… hee hee hee… I’m looking forward to things settling down a bit – or at least balancing itself out.

Anyway, so I have explained myself, I hope. I feel better now… And now, for the latest news…

The biggest news in my life currently is that, after a recent audition, I am now an official member of the Orange County Symphony! I am sincerely looking forward to growing under the current music director, and working with the orchestra on the fantastic selection of music they have planned for the coming year. Stay tuned for details on concerts as they come up!

In other (smaller) news, I have just signed on with a new database for composers and performers called MusMap.com. It is easy-to-use, a great tool for searching out musicians for your events and other needs, and a great place for networking with fellow professionals. View my composer’s profile and find all sorts of info about me, including some of my works with program notes and sound samples. Or view my performer’s profile, and find all sorts of info about me , including upcoming performance events and sound samples. If you are a professional (or aspiring to be such) composer or performer, consider contacting MusMap.com for an invite to join!

And, finally, if you notice at the very top of my right-hand sidebar, I have added a “My Upcoming Events” section, where I will be updating a list of upcoming events and concerts. Clicking on the link of the name of the event will open a page with more info on that specific event; be sure to check back often!

New E-Copyright-ing!

The U.S. Copyright Office “is conducting a beta test of its web-based registration system, electronic Copyright Office (eCO). Participants in eCO beta testing will file basic registration claims online at a reduced fee established for electronic filings ($35). eCO beta testing covers basic registration claims for literary works, visual arts works, performing arts works, sound recordings, and single serials. Other claim types and services will be offered via eCO at a later date.”

This process is quick and easy-to-use (and ten dollars cheaper than conventional filing)! Once an account is set up, you can use eCO for any future claims, with all your pertinent information saved for later as a template. I was able to fill out a typical application online, pay the fee online through a site backed by the U.S. Treasury, then upload all three files related to my claim online. Just about any form of file is accepted for upload, and you have the alternative option of mailing hard copies into the Copyright Office. eCO’s only limitation is that it currently supports only Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape Navigator 7.02: “Internet Explorer 7.0 and Firefox 2.0 may work also. The Safari browser is not currently certified for use with the eCO system.” However, being a Safari user, I got around this by using Camino and had no problems.

To become a beta tester for eCO click here, for information and a link to the online invitation application. Once applying, the Copyright Office will contact you by email on how to proceed next – just follow all email instructions carefully, and you’re set!
