Interested in Taking Lessons?
My Lessons Are…
- Simplicity
- Results
- A personalized use of both Traditional and Suzuki methods.
- Lessons that work for you, not against you.
The Lark Ascending Studio, my private teaching studio in Southern California, has openings for new violin students! Taking private lessons is a great way to either begin afresh or continue building on the foundation you already have, with one-on-one instruction tailored to meet your personal needs and goals. All ages and levels of ability are accepted!
Even if you are not interested in lessons for yourself, please help us out by spreading the word to everyone you know: local school teachers, parents, grandparents, neighbors . . .
You can Download a copy of our colorful flyer here, and I would be happy to mail out a brochure to anyone interested in more information. Just click on my contact email address at the bottom of the Bio & More page, and send me an email.
Thank you for your help in spreading the news!
(Update: Currently the flyer is a few years old, but the information is still valid, with the exception of the phone number [you may always email me, if you like]; a revised flyer will be available soon! Thanks for your patience!)
My Teaching Philosophy:
I rely on the early Suzuki books, but am eager to add repertoire according to individual need and interest; I begin a new student on basic technique before introducing reading comprehension, but I begin music reading the moment the student gains basic stability on the instrument, usually by the second tune; All technique, history, and theory are taught based upon and using the current repertoire as the primary “etude”, with additional resources added as necessary.
Ultimately, I strive to grow in the student an informed sense of interpretation based upon historical knowledge of the times and composer of the piece; therefore, I encourage a reasonable diversity from student to student in the execution of pieces, as long as it is historically accurate and musically tasteful.
