CMI Performance - July 2006

Last Saturday, the afternoon of July 22, ten young string quartets performed for the annual Chamber Music Institute concert at Roselle Hall in Fullerton. It was very hot and muggy in the small space, but it was worth it just to perform and listen to all the delightful chamber music! :)

My group was last to perform, to reveal the fabulous first and fourth movements from Robert Schumann’s Quartet No. 1, op. 41. This was probably my favorite CMI, as my fellow quartet members were each wonderful musicians, and we really felt solid playing with each other, not to mention that the music we explored together was simply grand!

I also had the great honor of joining CMI’s faculty as a part-time coach for two of our quartets - one group performed the second movement of Tchaikovsky’s Quartet No. 1, and the other, the first and fourth movements of Haydn’s Quartet op. 42. I very much enjoyed working with these talented young musicians and seeing their growth. After the performance on Saturday, the students from the Haydn quartet surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers to thank me for working with them. How sweet! :D

Pictures from this year’s Chamber Music Institute are now up in the gallery. Check them out here!
